HEGINS, Pa. — MI® Windows and Doors, one of America’s largest manufacturers of precision-built and energy-efficient windows and patio doors and part of the MITER Brands™ portfolio, recently assembled 80 unisex bicycles to donate to those less fortunate this holiday season.
On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, the manufacturer hosted a standard work training program that featured bicycle assembly at its plant in Hegins. The standard work training involved teaching employees the most efficient and effective way to perform a task or process, ensuring consistency and quality across an organization.
After the standard work training, 24 MI Windows and Doors team members worked together, using the knowledge they gained from the training, to assemble the bicycles on the production floor.
“Our team built 80 bicycles today to donate to local community groups within our working region. There’s no better time to do it than right around Christmas,” said Dan Whitman, Sr. Production Manager at MI Windows and Doors. “Through this project, we show our team members how they can use LEAN manufacturing techniques to have what they need, when they need it, and how they need it.”
MI Windows and Doors donated the bikes to the Upper Dauphin Human Service Center, an organization that supports community members in times of need through food, clothing, household essentials, utility bill assistance, and referrals to other public service agencies. Upper Dauphin Human Service Center will distribute the bikes during its Christmas Express event.
